Registration

  • Plans are underway for a SCOA gathering in Rockland Harbor, Maine August 7 - 9, 2015. Located at at the mouth of Penobscot Bay, midcoast Maine, it is an excellent jumping off place for cruising farther downeast. It is one of the nicest cruising areas in the world. The harbor is large, easily accessible and protected from all, but severe easterly weather, and in such weather you can anchor behind the breakwater.
Thanks to former SCOA Commodore, Dan Seefahrt, the harbor master is expecting us and, if we reserve soon, will have slips available at the town dock http://www.rocklandharbor.info . If there is any possibility at all that you will be attending by boat, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can provide the harbor master an early estimate of the number of slips needed. We will get back to you in due course with details of advance payment. We are being offered the slips at half-price for $1/ foot/ night and moorings at $30/night. There is also room to anchor.
The town dock has shower and bathroom facilities and is adjacent to a large town park where, weather permitting, we will have a barbecue on Saturday night. For those who arrive on Friday we will gather at a local restaurant. There are many nearby places to go, hikes to take and things to do.
Weather and interest permitting we will build a day-sail or fun race into the program with drive-in members as crew.

For those who will be arriving by land there are lots of motels, hotels and B&B's in the area. It is important to reserve very soon because August is prime time for tourism and summer events in coastal Maine. This link from Trip Advisor lists and rates them. http://www.tripadvisor.com/SmartDeals-g40840-Rockland_Maine-Hotel-Deals.html
Please join us! It is a great place to be in August!
Please let me know if you plan to attend (or even might attend). We will send more detailed information early in June: Hooper Brooks hooper.brooks@gmail.com 914-483-7765
